Faith Leaders and pastors' spouses attend HIV/AIDS training in Brooklyn, New York Pastors' spouses continue to be on the front line in the fight against HIV/AIDS. During the 2008 International HIV/AIDS Conference in Lagos Nigeria, approximately 300 clergy wives from throughout Africa, attended a special luncheon where NCPS president, Vivian Berryhill, was keynote speaker.
Two hundred thirty plus (230+) African pastors' spouses have signed on for membership to the National Coalition of Pastors' Spouses. These women will place specific emphasis on HIV/AIDS training and prevention.
On the home front, faith leaders and pastors' spouses in Brooklyn, New York recently held an HIV/AIDS training session. Representing various denominations and organizations, these influential leaders were made aware of the various risks which hamper the reduction of HIV numbers in communities of color. Using the NCPS HIV/AIDS: A Manual for Faith Communities and curriculum, workshop attendees were informed of the ABC's of HIV (Abstinence, Be Faithful and Condom use if "A and B" have not been adhered to).
Ms. Regina Wait of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was a guest facilitator, and challenged those in attendance to get tested, host similar trainings in their respective churches, and encourage those in their congregations to get tested as well.
